THE CONDUCTION SYSTEM
The conduction system is like the ‘wiring’ of the heart, designed to conduct electrical impulses throughout the heart muscle to make it beat. In actuality, the "wires’ would not be visible, but follow the paths (shown in green) illustrated. The impulses begin in sinus node, spread throughout the atria, pass through the atrioventricular node, and then are distributed throughout the ventricles. During each heartbeat (a duration 1 second during a resting state), these stages can be seen on the electrocardiogram (EGG). The current flowing through the atria produces small "blip" (the P wave), impulse crosses the atrioventricular node ECG line becomes level (the PR se When the impulse spreads through muscular ventricles, a larger "blip" ( the QPS complex) is produced on the ECG. the electrical system recovers in prep for the next impulse. During this stage, the T wave appears on the ECG.
